UK Success Story Supporting Poker Players

Ukash LogoIt is always interesting to note the ways that poker players around the world get to play their favourite games. If you have an interest in the online poker industry in other countries, you will be interested to know that Ukash is now available in Mexico. The company has signed an agreement with the Mexican firm Farmapronto which will enable it to be used by online poker players in Mexico.

Ukash has been able to develop a strong profile and presence in North America and this latest announcement should see the firm develop an even stronger hold on this part of the world. It is always good to hear of a British success story and especially when it means that more poker players will be able to play online poker games.

Poker sites and players need good payment options

Ukash was founded back in 2005 and has developed into a major player in the finance industry. The increasing numbers of online transactions taking place has ensured that people are looking for a safe way to spend money online and intermediary firms are of great benefit and support. This is exactly what this UK company has achieved and they are appreciated the world over by poker players.

One of the best things about playing online poker in the UK and Ireland is how simple it can be to make an online transaction. Compare the plight of the UK poker player to that of an American poker player and the whole process is extremely simple. There are many different reasons for this but it is apparent that while America lauds itself as being the land of the free and the home of the brave, it is far from welcoming for online poker players. The work of this US company is helping people all around the world to enjoy online poker but of course, there is always more work to be done!

Dublin’s Fair City Hosts The Poker Fun

UK and Irish poker players have an opportunity to have a busy, productive and possibly even lucrative weekend this weekend if they can make it over to Dublin. A weekend in Dublin always seems like a great idea but there will be no late night drinking sessions or trawls around the many bars this weekend for the dedicated poker player. This is down to the fact that the city is playing host to the Racing Aces Super 2013 festival. The name may not instantly tell you that a UK and Ireland poker jamboree is in store but if you make your way to the Citywest Hotel in Dublin you will find out all about what is on offer.

In total there will be 11 tournaments taking place over the long weekend but if you were looking for diversity, you will have to look long and hard to find it. Of the 11 big game tournaments taking place, 10 of them are Hold ‘Em poker tournaments. This isn’t unusual, Hold ‘Em poker is by far and away the most popular poker choice for players these days but it you want a little bit of diversity, don’t give up. There is a Pot Limit Omaha game taking place too so if you need to take a break from Hold ‘Em or if your skills lie in a PLO game, you will have the chance to strut your stuff.

The Main Event is the big poker draw

Friday night sees the Poker Aces Team Challenge grab the attention but for those players that are instantly drawn to the Main Event, Saturday at midday is the time to look out for. Last year, a grand total of 877 players turned out for the Main Event and the players were battling it out for a prize pool of over 260,000 euros. There has been a lot of publicity and positive talk about the event and the organisers are said to be quietly confident of getting over a thousand players on board for the Main Event this time around. That could see the prize pool swell even further so you are in with a shout of playing for a lot of cash if you get involved.

Dusk Till Dawn And Genting Poker Join Forces

Dusk Till Down and Genting CasinoThe Dusk Till Dawn poker club in Nottingham is one of the most loved and respected poker clubs in the country but for many people, it is not exactly convenient. There will be plenty of people that make a special trip to take part in some of the major poker events and tournaments provided by the poker club but on the whole, most UK poker players will only be familiar with the club by reading about it.

This is likely to change though with the announcement that Dusk Till Dawn have agreed a three year partnership with Genting Casino. This move will see the Dusk Till Dawn website get a makeover with Genting providing a white label version of their own site. The Dusk Till Dawn branded poker site is scheduled to be released any day now and there will be a number of additional benefits from this move.

Get a chance to play with the big poker names

There are plenty of satellite events lined up so if you still have ambitions of playing at some of the biggest poker events around the table with some of the biggest poker players in the world, you should have plenty to aim for.

Genting Poker Series 2013One of the major satellite tournaments that will be running include the £1m Genting Poker Series, which is definitely a poker tournament you want to be involved with. With online poker being such a massive industry these days, it makes sense for any firm with a strong name and reputation in poker to develop their online offerings. This means providing customers with a great service that can be relied upon and adds something that other people can’t provide.

With the combined power and appeal of Dusk Till Dawn and Genting, this partnership is likely to be a success for all parties.

The Hippodrome Is The Poker Place To Be

The Hippodrome CasinoWhen it comes to the many different tourist destinations in London, it is easy to see why so many people still believe that Leicester Square is the place to be. There are so many iconic London images, buildings and scenes taking place here on a regular basis that there will always be something to take your interest. The thing is though; it is not as if Leicester Square and the businesses that currently operate from there are taking their custom for granted. They still work hard to provide entertainment and attractions that people want to see and if you love casino and poker in particular, the Hippodrome remains one of the most magical places in the area.

Poker is in high demand

The Hippodrome has a great history and has played host to some of the biggest names and keenest crowds over the years but it has been refurbished as one of the major casino venues in the capital. This spring, it will be focussing on bringing poker to players in the capital, which should be of benefit to London residents, tourists and everyone else that makes up the huge number of people in and around London on a daily basis.

There is a low key approach to hosting major poker events with a low-level buy-in tournament taking place in April. This event is part of the UKIPT but many more big events will be coming after that. Before that, if you are keen to be part of the poker activity in the venue, you will be delighted to know that PokerStars LIVE, a 24 hour venue, will be ready for business on the 4th of March and there will be plenty of cash games and tournaments from the first day.

Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club Pays Out Again

Dusk Till Dawn Poker ClubThere are plenty of poker clubs in the UK which have a great reputation and Nottingham based Dusk Till Dawn is definitely one of them. The club has been the scene for a number of great poker triumphs and the recent Multi Prize Pool Poker event, held at the weekend, was a roaring success. This style of event carries a unique twist in that there is just one tournament but the variety of buy-in levels allows a strong number of guaranteed prizes to be offered.

Andy Young is the poker player who benefitted the most from this innovative poker tournament. From a prize pool fund of £30,000, Andy managed to scoop just less than one third of this. He managed to take away £8,550 through buying into Prize Pool 3, which was at a level of £200.

You have to speculate to accumulate

The unique nature of the event and the benefits that can come from being eligible for all prize pools can be seen in the fortunes of the players that finished second and third in the event. Robert Lane was the runner-up, bagging a total of £3,493 for his troubles. This came from his share of Prize Pool 1 and Prize Pool 2. However, third placed poker player Ben Vinson actually walked away with more than Lane, as he scooped up a total of £3,717. He may have received less than Lane did in Pot 1 and Pot 2 but as Vinson was also eligible for a share of Prize Pool 3, which delivered £1,628, he managed to leapfrog Lane with respect to earnings for the event.

There wasn’t too much money between the two players so Lane may say that he prefers the kudos of coming second but with a little bit more conviction or initial layout, he could have been celebrating a bigger cash boost.

Two More Names For Premier League Poker

partypoker Premier League VIExcitement is definitely starting to build for the PartyPoker.com Premier League VI event that is taking part next month in London. The Aspers Casino in the Westfield, Stratford City complex will welcome some of the biggest names in world poker and with a $125,000 buy-in; these players are going to be going all out to make the tournament worth their while.

The first six names were released to the public last week but another two names have just been added to the mix.

The first name added to the line-up is Daniel Cates. If you are a regular online poker player with Full Tilt Poker, you may be more familiar with Daniel under the name of “jungleman12.” Cates has been making the most of playing in Europe in recent times and given some of the stress he endured when Full Tilt Poker went to the wall, it is no surprise that he is putting a greater emphasis on these tournaments.

Cates has plenty to play for

It was reported that Cates had the biggest poker balance on the site when the big freeze happened so he definitely had grievances with what happened. Then again, when you are a poker player and playing poker is your main source of income, you have to stick at it and Cates will be one of the top players to keep an eye out for at this event.

Aspers CasinoThe other announcement for the big event is the addition of Luke Schwartz to the line-up. Luke goes by the name of “fullflush” and he has a good pedigree of poker playing with over $2.5 million in winnings when you combine online and offline activities. This is a poker player that clearly knows how to finish on the main stage and again, he will be an excellent addition to the line-up.

All eyes will be on the Aspers Casino between the 17th and 23rd of March for the Premier League VI event.

Irish Success In The UKIPT Cork Event

UKIPT CorkThe UKIPT Cork title is staying in Ireland this year after Thomas Finneran grabbed success on Sunday in a quick showdown between himself and the UK’s Stephen McGrath.

The next step on the tour is in London which means that there will be a local feel to the poker event for many UK poker players. The Cork event was a rousing success but there is a lot of expectation surrounding the forthcoming London event.

Before the heads-up got underway, a deal was struck between the players. This arrangement saw 5,000 euros coming off the first prize and making its way to the second. Perhaps after his victory, Finneran will wish that he took the full prize home but you get the feeling that he will not be too disappointed with the final amount he took home. After all, being able to claim more than 55,000 euros for four days work is definitely something that will make you happy.

Finneran achieves success again

Thomas Finneran

The UKIPT Cork event was the first time that Finneran managed to achieve success in the UKIPT but he is no stranger to achieving success at the major events. Finneran has managed to achieve success in three EPTs and he also made the final table at the Irish Open back in 2007. This may have been more than 5 years ago but it indicates the level of consistency that Finneran is able to bring to his poker playing.

In the top eight players at the tournament, there were another two poker players from the UK and Ireland. A PokerStars qualifier finished in 6th place as Alexander Rhys-Davies picked up more than 10,000 euros. In 8th place was Nicholas Newport, a PokerStars player who was able to pick up more than 5,000 euros from the event.

UK Poker Player Admits Murder Of Wife

While the poker community in the United Kingdom, both online and across the country in various tournaments and events, is a thriving one, it is fair to say that it brings people from all walks of life. Much like any group of people, there will be folk that you get on with in the group and there will be people that you are not too fond of. Whether this is down to personal taste and preferences or just taking a dislike to someone, it is fair to say that not all of the poker community is as harmonious as you would possibly like to think.

Marcus Bebb-JonesHowever, you can guarantee that the UK poker community will be shocked to hear the revelations that have surfaced from America about a well-known face and name from the UK poker circuit. Marcus Bebb-Jones was a familiar player to many in the Midlands poker circuit after he scooped thousands of pounds playing poker in the region.

Bebb-Jones and his then wife Sabrina ran a hotel in Colorado before Sabrina disappeared in September of 1997. Bebb-Jones would return to the UK and he was in his home country when the skull of his wife was found in Colorado in 2004. Bebb-Jones was arrested in 2009 while he was in Kidderminster and he was extradited back to the United States in 2011.

Bebb-Jones was due to stand trial for murder, which he initially pled not guilty to but he has now since struck a deal with the US prosecution team. Bebb-Jones has now admitted to killing his wife back in 1997 and then dumping her body in the national park of Colorado. Sentencing of Bebb-Jones will take place on the 1st of May and he is expected to receive a jail sentence of around 10 to 20 years.

Romanello Remains The Top Ranked UK Poker Player

Roberto RomanelloAnyone looking to keep up to date with the current status of the poker community would be advised to stay in contact with the Global Poker Index (GPI). This is believed to be one of the most accurate ways to rank poker players and there is a special weighting towards recent tournaments and events.

According to the stats, and whether you want to believe them, sees Roberto Romanello still being listed as the top UK poker player. In more exciting terms, not only does this mean that Romanello can look down on all of the other poker players in the United Kingdom, it sees him listed as the 17th highest ranked poker player in the world. When you think about how many poker players there are in the world, this is a high accolade indeed!

In his time, Romanello has achieved some good success in the poker scene. He has won the European Poker Tour in Prague and the World Poker Tour in Bratislava so he knows all about being a poker winner.

UK riding high in the poker charts

Global Poker Index

With 12 US poker players above Romanello in the list, it is no shock to see the United States riding high on the list of poker players. Of the top 300 ranked poker players in the world, 141 come from the United States. When you consider the difficulties in playing online poker in the US, it is probably no surprise to see so many US poker players looking to play in the main events.

The United Kingdom were listed fourth with respect to the number of players listed in the top 300. The US top the bill and then France and Canada come next but with 18 poker players, the United Kingdom is well placed in the upper echelons of poker players.

Big Names Confirmed For Poker Premier League

Premier League Poker VIIn London, when there is talk of some big name players confirming they are heading to the Premier League, all eyes usually turn towards Chelsea to see who the club is buying now. Whether they are buying footballers who can’t hit the target, Fernando Torres, or footballers who are kicking the wrong targets, Eden Hazard, there is no doubt that Chelsea are the biggest capital club when it comes to bringing in big name players.

Scott SeiverReigning champion Scott Seiver was the first to be announced and he was followed closely by big poker star Daniel Negreanu. The next two names were Antonio Esfanidari and Phil Hellmuth. Given that Hellmuth has amassed a total of 13 WSOP bracelets in his career, it would be fair to say that he is one of the biggest players in the poker world at the moment. These four players will be joined by Tony G and Phil ‘The Unabomber’ Laak.

The Premier League VI event is already shaping up to be quite the event and there are still 10 more names to be announced!
