More Great Poker Action At GUKPT Portsmouth

GUKPT PortsmouthNot every poker player in the UK was heading to Wembley for the ISPT event; there were a number of poker players that were far more interested in the G Casino in Portsmouth. After the initial days jousting, there were a total of 55 players back at the popular casino and poker venue, looking to make their way down to the final 9 players that would make up the final table. The poker action took 10 hours to whittle the numbers down which meant that all of the players who got through deserved their cash.

The fact that this event is paying out to the top 13 ranked players means that everyone at the final table can bank on taking money home. While the ultimate aim was to make the final table with a good level of chips, there would have been plenty of poker players that were simply aiming to get higher than 14th. You never want to be the player that bursts the bubble but as sure as every tournament has a winner, every tournament must have a player that just misses out on the big money too. In this event, the unlucky player was Dale Simmons.

Bubbles must be burst at poker events

This exit ensured that every player still involved in the action would be taking home at least £1,000 with them. The first player to go out after the bubble had been burst was Andrew Miles who finished in 13th place. Once the bubble had been burst, there was a quick burst of players heading home with Paul Burbidge, Ellie Biessek and Fraser Beach following on quickly. Biessek had picked up the Genting Poker Series title in Newcastle and he was no doubt keen to follow up with more success but it wasn’t to be, although another cash finish is always going to be a pleasing aspect. When beach crashed out, this left 9 players and this brought a close to the day’s action as the final table numbers had been reached.

With respect to poker chips, in 9th position was Dennis Omahoney who had 85,500 chips and in 8th position was Adam Boutwell who had 136,000 chips. In 7th position was Trevor Bowers with 184,000 chips and in 6th place was Khalik Mohangee who was just ahead with 187,000 chips. The 200,000 chip mark was broken by Morgan Sorfleet in 5th place with 204,000 chips. There was then a massive jump up to 4th place and Dom Mahoney, who had 304,500 chips in place. In third was Simon Skinner with 492,500 chips and Nick Humphris was in second place with 505,500 chips. The leader for the event was Blair Hampton who held 554,000 chips.

Northumberland Poker Star Wins Big In Las Vegas

Bobby ReganThere is no doubt that if you could choose to win a big poker event anywhere in the world, Las Vegas would be at the top end of destinations. There is something very special about this gaming and gambling location which means that people are always going to flock to it. It is such a famous and iconic name that the UK Pub Poker Championship decided to whisk all of the finalists across to Las Vegas for the final. This meant that there were some keen UK players who were pretty excited by the event but in the end it was Bobby Regan from Northumberland that managed to claim the title.

In the end, Bobby triumphed over thousands of poker players across the country and he was a very proud winner of the Vegas 100 Redtooth Poker title and the £5,000 prize money! Getting the chance to go to Las Vegas and play in a proper poker tournament is definitely something that will be appealing to many people but there is no doubt that the kudos that goes with winning the poker tournament is something that will always live with Bobby!

Bobby has been playing in the Tuesday night poker league at the Last Orders pub which can be found on Regent Street in Blyth. Bobby gave an interview to his local newspaper after his success.

I still can’t believe I won it, it hasn’t sunk in yet. The whole experience was class and a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Las Vegas was more than I ever expected. I was made to feel very special. Everyone was so friendly. I played a little poker growing up, but it’s only in the last few years when I started playing more regularly with friends and online. The Last Orders poker league is good fun and I’ve met a lot of great new people there.

Poker events make for a social occasion

There is no doubt going to be a lot of celebrating back in the Last Orders pub but you can probably put your money on the fact that there will be plenty of folk telling Bobby to get a round in! The big tournament itself took the shape of a huge 12 hour poker session against 100 top players in the Orleans Casino. The event itself had been building all throughout the year but in the end it was a bit of a rush for Bobby to get ready. This is down to the fact that Bobby has not been abroad since he was a child and he needed to get a new passport at short notice after winning the semi-final back in March! Bobby was one of the ten qualifiers from Sheffield for the Vegas 100 and that was just the beginning of the work as he managed to pull things together to enable the Vegas trip to go ahead.

Bobby is hoping to make inroads into playing poker professionally but he will always have the Redtooth Poker league to fall back on. This league is the largest UK live poker league and the MD of the company, Martin Green, released a statement after Bobby’s success, saying;

Since Vegas 100 was created, it has simply grown and grown. Bobby’s success is an example of how the tournament can offer a unique opportunity for everyone to enjoy.

GUKPT Portsmouth Gets Off To A Solid Start

GUKPT Portsmouth Although the poker focus in the United Kingdom this weekend has naturally fallen on the International Stadiums Poker Tour at Wembley, there have been other places to play poker. The GUKPT series has been going from strength to strength this year and the latest event, held in Portsmouth, has done very well for itself. The numbers at Wembley may not quite be adding up with respect to meeting the price money but at Portsmouth, it turns out that there is a great level of demand with the number of players exceeding the initial expectations. This is great news and should help to spur the players on to higher levels of play.

Day 1a is traditionally a slow day at these event, which don’t really pick up until the weekend but there were 50 entrants taking part in the day’s poker activities. From this amount, 23 players managed to grab chips and the leader at the end of Day 1a was Morgan Sorfleet. Morgan had managed to turn his initial stack of 20,000 chips into just short of 100,000 which left him as the leader. He may not have too many cash victories to his name in live poker play but with this sort of form, that will surely change at some point soon.

Plenty of poker action to go

Other notable players at the higher end of the standings for Day 1a were Alvarez Sabugal, who had 70,300 chips and Nick Humphris who had 76,600. In second place at the end of Day 1a was Clive Macey who collected 82,050 chips.

Chris GordonDay 1b was even busier at the G-Casino in Portsmouth as 84 players came along to play for glory and the cash. The leader of this day’s poker was Chris Gordon who turned his opening stack of 20,000 chips into 101,775. This was enough to take the lead in the tournament up to this point and like Morgan Sorfleet, Gordon would have hopes and expectations of going far in this event.

Other notable players at the higher end of the standings for Day 1b were Trevor Davies, who had 89,000 chips and Paul Dunne, who had 94,400. Just edging Dunne out was Blair Hampton, who picked up 94,800 chips to take second place on Day 1b. Day 2 of the GUKPT Portsmouth event started with 55 players and was going all the way through until 9 players were left to create a final table.

Support Liv Boeree In The Race For Life

Liv BoereeWhen some people think of poker players, they think of rich people who have a hard gaming edge and very little worries or cares about other people. It is funny how a few films, a few TV characters and perhaps one or two bad stories from real life can make people feel a certain way about a group of people. The thing about poker players is that they are no different from any other group of people in real life. There are good folk and there are bad folk. There are folk who enjoy a lot of good times and there are people who have suffered genuine heartache and loss in their life. When it comes to poker players, there is nothing different about them and any other group in the world.

With the possible exception of how much they like poker…and then the group of poker players wins hands down!

Anyone who thinks that poker players are a bit heartless should check out what Liv Boeree is up to this weekend. Anyone involved in the poker circuit knows that Liv is a good character who has certainly taken a lot of blows and criticism in her time but to her eternal credit, she has delivered it back at the same rate. On Saturday the 1st of June, Liv is taking part in the Race For Life to help PokerStars play a part in supporting Cancer Research UK.

Super Liv can fit it all in

Liv has had a fairly busy poker schedule of late but she took time to speak to the PokerStars blog to promote her run, saying;

My training has been much briefer than I’d like it to have been. I’ve just tried to squeeze in a quick run when I can. That said, I ran 7km the other day, and it wasn’t too bad, so I’m feeling quietly confident I’ll make it round.

Liv, like most of us in the UK, have personal reasons to want to support the fight against cancer, as she explained;

I have lost a few family members to cancer, sadly – three of my grandparents. My remaining grandma is a breast cancer survivor, so it’s very important to carry on the great work Cancer Research UK is doing.

Race For Live Logo

Liv is running in the Race For Life and she can be sponsored on her Just Giving page or you can tweet her a message of support before she gets under starters orders. PokerStars is also running a special Liv $5+$5 Race For Life tournament on Saturday the 1st of June. The event starts at 8pm on Saturday night and this means Liv will be running and playing on the same day, proving what a star she really is. There will then be further Race For Life tournaments taking place during the rest of the week as PokerStars gets fully behind this very worthy cause. There is also going to be a freeroll event on Sunday the 2nd of June and for every player that takes part, PokerStars will donate $1 to the charity.

The ISPT Event Is Not Just About Wembley

ISPT WembleyWell, the football season is done and dusted in England and this means that the time has finally come for Wembley to focus on the poker. The big winner of the guaranteed million euros at the ISPT event in Wembley won’t be known until Wednesday but players are making their way to the famous stadium right now. This is going to be a huge thrill for so many poker players because it is not often that you get the chance to head to Wembley and take part in playing yourself.

The vast majority of press and focus for this event has fallen on the big poker event, which is only fair but there are going to be other poker games surrounding the Main Event. This is always good because some players will want to see the excitement but not pay the high buy-in fee that is the only way to now gain entry to the event. There are also going to be those players that get knocked out of the poker event and want to keep on playing but don’t want to spend the cash for a buy-in, if it is still on offer.

Plenty of poker games where you can sit and go

ISPT Logo

There is going to be a sit n go room set up by the ISPT, which is definitely going to be a big draw for poker players. It is said that the games will range from £100 to £10,000 which should ensure that there is a very broad mix of players getting involved. There is no need to buy in advance as players will be able to purchase their entry directly with cash at the time when they make their way to the table to play.

There are also going to be some other cash games around London in association with the ISPT event. If you can’t quite make it to Wembley but fancy playing at the Palm Beach Casino or the Mint Casino in London, you will have the chance to enjoy cash games which will be made available from 3pm every day of the festival. The Palm Beach Casino is located at 30 Berkeley Street in Mayfair in London while the Mint Casino, which is a Genting Casino, can be found at 45 Cromwell Road in South Kensington in the city.

Some of the limits on offer will be £5/£10, £10/£25, £25/£50 and above. An added touch is the fact that both of these venues will be running to and from Wembley and these casinos throughout the day so if you fancy maximising your casino options, you will get all the support and assistance that you need.

Another Chance To Play Around With Charlotte Jackson

Charlotte JacksonWith Charlotte Jackson being the current face of Sky Poker, it is clear that the company has been working hard to make sure that they get their money’s worth out of the pretty presenter. It doesn’t seem as though Charlotte has been on Sky Sports News too often of late and with Hayley McQueen currently sunning herself in Miami at the moment, some of the favourites have been missing for plenty of regular viewers.

However, while Hayley has been enjoying a well-deserved holiday, Charlotte has been busy on other projects. She has been busy playing golf for a number of different charities and this week, she is back on the Sky Poker site and players have the chance to take her on if they play their poker cards right.

TV star taking on the poker players

This is because Thursday the 30th of May is another Charlotte Invitational Event, the Guaranteed Charlotte £6K-Max event which will be taking place at 9pm on the Sky Poker site. All this week players have been playing their way to claim one of the five seats available to take her on. There is a good incentive for the event because every player that is involved with the £6k-Max event will be guaranteed to grab some cash. The top prize is going to be £2,400 which is certainly a strong incentive to be involved with the play. If Charlotte bags the top prize, there is going to be a good incentive to come back for the Charlotte Freeroll event which takes place on Friday the 31st of May.

This is because whatever money Charlotte earns on Thursday night will be placed into the freeroll event on Friday evening. There is going to be another game that Charlotte plays in on Friday night and again, any winnings that she earns in this other game will go to the Charlotte Jackson Freeroll event on the Friday.

While there will only be limited players taking on Charlotte in the £6K-Max event, everyone can have a shot at Charlotte in the Sky Sports Bounty Hunter game. This is going to be televised on Sky Sports and on Sky Poker TV live, so it is well worth getting involved with if you want to see your name up in lights on TV!

There is an entry fee of £33 but if you manage to outlast Charlotte, you will get entry into the Friday freeroll where there is going to be £500 and all of Charlotte’s Thursday night winnings up for grabs. There is no doubt that Charlotte has been a rather fine ambassador for Sky Poker and her presence on Thursday is sure to entice a few more poker players on to the site.

Nottingham Welcomes A New Poker Playing Option

Nottingham Welcomes A New Poker Playing Option

When you think of poker and Nottingham, it is understandable that you will instantly think of the Dusk Till Dawn club. This venue is known across the United Kingdom as being one of the best places to play poker in the country and the people behind it are well known on the poker circuit. The fact that a large number of the doubts that surrounded the ISPT event at Wembley were washed away when DTD stepped in to back the event says a lot about the reputation that this club holds.

However, this weekend, while the Wembley tournament kicks off and the DTD reputation will be on the line in London as opposed to Nottingham, poker players are going to be given a new poker option in the city.

This is down to the fact that there is a new casino VIP area opening up on Friday in the city and it promises to provide poker players with somewhere else to go. The Alea Casino, which is located in Upper Parliament Street is providing players with poker tables alongside American roulette and blackjack tables in their new private bar area. There is also going to be a waitress service available and this continues the work the venue has carried out in recent times to provide something for more stylish guests.

The more poker venues the better

The Alea were behind the opening of the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill which opened in 2012 and this new poker venture continues this theme.

Mark Hands, the director of the new venue said;

The VIP lounge will be invitation only for people who want a little more privacy to fully enjoy their visit. Our new Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill has gone down well with the city’s foodies and we felt it was time to extend our ‘affordable glamour’ offer by adding a VIP area to appeal to people who wouldn’t necessarily have been to the venue before.

While the Dusk Till Dawn club is the natural choice for poker players, there is no doubt that some poker players will feel intimidated by this sort of venue. There is a big difference from playing poker online in the comfort of your own home to playing poker in one of the most respected venues in the country. Although Alea claim that they are aiming for a higher class of crowd, you’ll likely find that the poker tables become open for most players. After all, poker tables are no use if you don’t have poker tables! This venue could be one that is slightly more welcoming for players looking to find some real live poker experience.

The Dusk Till Dawn Club has nothing to worry about just yet but there is no doubt that Nottingham is definitely becoming a force to be reckoned with when it comes to poker options.

UK Players Were Big SCOOP Winners

PokerStars SCOOP 2013You certainly won’t find too many UK poker players complaining about the recent PokerStars SCOOP extravaganza. There has been a two week fiesta of poker with players playing from the comfort of their own home or wherever they decide to play poker. Not every poker player from the UK has been a winner, that would be impossible but the fact that so many British poker players have triumphed has to be seen as huge achievement. Any player looking for encouragement to get involved more with online tournaments will hopefully have picked up a lot from what SCOOP has provided this month.

It has to be said that the statistics are highly impressive. In total, there were 48,746 entrants from the United Kingdom at the SCOOP events. This saw the UK being ranked as the fourth highest represented nation or entity in the entire tournament. When you take in population sizes, this is a great return and it goes a long way to indicating the level of love that we have for poker on these shores.

There were a lot of wins for UK poker players

There was great joy for the UK players in the amount of events won. There were a total of 19 triumphs for the UK players and this was the highest number of wins for any nation! This may mean that it wasn’t always the biggest events that were won by the Brits but for some players, winning any online tournament would be the biggest thrill of their poker playing career so the more event triumphs the better to be honest!

With respect to cash places, the UK managed a total of 6,482 cash finishes. This put them in fourth place with respect to cashing out and when you think that we had the fourth level of entrants too, this shows a level of consistency.

If you are the sort of player that likes to focus on making the final table, you will be delighted to know that in total, there were 107 UK players who managed to make their way to the final table of events. This placed the UK third with respect to the national rankings for final table places.

Of course, for some people, it is all about the money and anyone looking to find what UK poker earned at SCOOP are in for a treat. In total, $8,754,363.06 was picked up by UK players, which is a huge sum of money and there is a lot to be proud of in the poker success found at the SCOOP event.

Early Days At GUKPT Portsmouth Event

GUKPT Portsmouth The GUKPT is one of the biggest things in poker at the moment and Portsmouth poker players are getting all of the benefit at the moment. This is because Leg 4 of the 2013 tournament is currently in poker and the excitement and tempo is building as the week progresses. The action started on Sunday and as there was a Bank Holiday Monday in the UK this week, there was an additional chance for players to get involved properly. The majority of the country may be back at work now but this doesn’t mean that the poker excitement or drama is fading out just yet.

There is a Re-Buy Turbo Satellite game starting at 4pm on Tuesday and this has a £30 buy-in. If you are working on Tuesday and can’t get across until a little bit later on, you will hopefully find the 7.30 pm start time for the NLH Re-entry game to be of benefit. There is a £70 fee for this poker game and unlike the Re-Buy Turbo Satellite game; there is a registration fee involved which is £8.

There is even more poker fun lined up for Wednesday with a NLH 6 Max game taking place at 7.30pm while the NLH Re-entry Super Satellite starts at 8.30pm on Wednesday night.

The Main Event is what people are looking for

However, there is no doubt that things won’t start to properly warm up at the event until Thursday the 30th of May. This is because it is Day 1A of the Main Event and we all that know that poker players love to focus on the Main Event. Having the chance to play for big money and take on the better players is always something that will be the focus. Players getting involved with the satellite events now will be hoping that they manage to secure their progress to the big stages but if not, there is the chance to buy in directly. This is the more expensive option but if you are unable to play in the build-up events or you have no luck in these events, it may be that this is the option that is right for you. Thursday also sees an Omaha game take place so if this is more your thing, you will be able to take advantage of what the tournament provides.

There is no doubt that these GUKPT events have been a big success and it looks as though the Portsmouth leg is shaping up rather nicely. There is still a bit of time until the main poker action starts but if you are looking to play your way into the tournament or you just want to capture the drama and excitement, make sure you make your way to Portsmouth.

Things Have Been A Little Bit Hectic For Liv Boeree Of Late

Liv BoereeOne of the things that poker players know all about is that life can get a little troubling at times. There is a need to focus on poker and tournaments but of course, there are plenty of other things that can get in the way. It can be hard enough to juggle proper life and poker for most people and it is not any easier for professional poker players either. Liv Boeree is a top poker player, well known in the UK for her PokerStars work and for TV presenting.

PokerStars is getting behind a great cause

She is currently extending herself at the moment to prepare properly for the Race For Life event she is involved with at this weekend. This is a great cause and Liv is hoping to raise funds and also raise awareness for a very good cause. With so many people in the UK being affected by cancer in one way or another, there is no doubt that many people will be very proud of Liv and her Twitter feed has indicated how hard she has been preparing for the event. With her race scheduled for this weekend (Saturday the 1st of June), she will no doubt be in the final stages of her preparation but of course, she needs to keep her hand in for poker too.

PokerStars LogoAs part of the overall PokerStars commitment to the cause, she will be playing in an online poker event on the same day as her race so there will no real opportunity to unwind and relax in comfort after the big race. Then again, this is pretty much the life for most online poker players. Sometimes poker is all about fitting games in as and when you have free time and again, plenty of poker players across the country will know exactly what Liv is going through.

She has kept up her poker playing by getting involved with the PokerStars SCOOP tournament but she has not really had much luck at this festival of poker. There have been plenty of great success stories for UK poker players at the event but Liv was not one of the lucky ones.

Her Twitter followers were the first to know that Liv had bubbled or near bubbled 6 satellites for the 10,000 Main Event and in the end she decided that enough was enough. The Netflix release of the fourth series of Arrested Development was calling her and she decided that she was going to spend her time watching all of the new episodes as opposed to becoming more frustrated by online poker. It is something that we have all felt at times and no doubt poker players across the UK felt a string affinity for Liv Boeree in taking this decision. Sometimes you just have to know when to say no more!
