Ace High

A hand that has nothing but an Ace to show for as High Card.

Ace in the Hole

An Ace in the Pocket Cards of a player is called Ace in the Hole.

Aces Full

A Full House that includes 3 Aces.

Aces Up

2 Pairs, one of them being a pair of Aces.

Active Player

Active Player denominates the player who is currently expected to take an action.

Add-On

Some poker tournaments offer players the option to buy additional chips in the first break of action (usually after about an hour of play). The total amount of money paid for these Add-Ons by all players who choose to make use of the option will then be put into the prize pool.

Aggressive

An aggressive player is a player who tries to apply a lot of pressure on his opponents, typically by means of Raises and Re-Raises.

All-In

The famous (or infamous) action of pushing all your chips into the middle is called an All-In (or going All-In).

Ante

The Ante is the amount of chips that have to be put into the pot by all players before the hand is dealt. Typically you will find this at later stages of poker tournaments.

Ax

Ax denotes an Ace and a low value card (2-9) in a player's Pocket Cards.

Axs

Axs denotes an Ace and a low value card (2-9) of the same colour in a player's Pocket Cards. The additional "s" to the term Ax stands for suited.
