Table Stakes

In generall all poker games are played as Table Stakes meaning that you can only bet up to all your chips in any given betting round. Unlike in all those Wild West movies where there is always the odd player putting his golden watch and a deed of ownership to a gold mine out of his pocket and onto the table (and of course goes on losing it, thus giving us a reason to watch the remainder of the movie).

Tell

A Tell is anything that gives away a player's hand. Be it by coughing, widening his eyes, blinking more than usual, running his fingers through his hair, ... In online poker these kinds of physical Tells obviously don't exist, but there are a lot of different Tells, like the way someone bets and makes a Raise, the way someone writes in the chat and so on.

Texas Hold\'Em

Currently the most popular poker variant by far. Each player will receive 2 cards (face down), the so called Pocket Cards. In the middle of the table there will be a total of 5 cards that can be used by any player together with his Pocket Cards in order to form the best possible hand of 5 cards.

Third Street

When playing 5 Card Stud the Third Street is the third card dealt to a player (which is the second card dealt with the face up).

Three Bet

Denotes the third bet in a betting round, equal to the second Raise.

Tight

If a player only plays few hands and only pursues them if he is convinced he can win them, he plays Tight. Some players consider this to be an overly cautious playing style seeing as this sort of player will choose to Fold hands that actually have a good chance of being winning hands. A Tight player however simply tries to avoid risks and minimise his possible losses this way.

Tilt

A player goes on Tilt when his nerves get the best of him and his rational play goes down the drain. Reasons for it usually are a Bad Beat or a player who gets on his nerves. Once a player is on Tilt he will usually make bad decisions and lose his chips quickly. Usually you will see this behaviour with new players.

Toke

Denotes the tip given to the Dealer (i.e. the actual dealer, not the player with the Dealer Button) in a Cash Game after winning a Pot. Úsually these are small amount like $1. In most casinos these tips will form the major income of dealers. It is also common for a successful player to additinoally award a bigger Toke again upon leaving the table.

Top Pair

A Pair that can be combined out of your own cards and the highest card of the Flop. Also see Middle Pair and Bottom Pair.

Top Set

A Set that is formed with the highest card of the Flop. For example: You hold JJ and the Flop shows 48J.

The expression Trips is often used to describe 3 cards of the same value (ranging from 222 to AAA). Other expressions would be Triples or 3 of a Kind.

Describes the fourth Community Card. Another, less often used term, is 4th Street.

Two Pair

Not surprising this means two Pairs.

Three of a Kind

The expression Three of a Kind is often used to describe 3 cards of the same rank (ranging from 222 to AAA). Other expressions would be Triples or Trips.

Third Street

When playing 5 Card Stud the term Third Street stands for the third card of each player's dealt hand (which is the second open card in the hand).

Triples

The expression Triples is often used to describe 3 cards of the same value (ranging from 222 to AAA). Other expressions would be Trips or 3 of a Kind.
