Rail

Originally the edge of a poker table, that will be elevated enough to protect the Pocket Cards of the players from too observant eyes of anyone standing behind them. Today the term Rail is mostly used for the barrier behind which the audience has to stay. Also see Railbird.

Railbird

Term used for people who are not involved in the poker game and watch from outside. Usually these people will be placed behind the Rail, hence the name Railbirds.

Rainbow

If the Board doesn't allow a Flush, the Community Cards are called a Rainbow.

Raise

If a player has placed a bet and another player wants to put more money into play instead of just making a Call, he can Raise.

Rake

In online Cash Games there will usually by a Rake per played hand. It will be deducted from each Pot and is usually asmall percentage of that Pot. It is also common procedure to have a maximum limit for that Rake, usually an amount of $3-$5.

Razz

A little known poker variant of 7 Card Stud where the worst hand wins.

Re-Raise

If there has been a Raise in a betting round and another player makes yet another Raise, this is called a Re-Raise.

Rebuy

A lot of tournaments offer you the option for a Rebuy if you lose all your chips in the first hour. This way you can purchase your chips again. The Rebuy will go right into the Prize Pool.

Registration

In order to compete at a tournament you will have to register for it beforehand. Usually for online tournaments the registration will start at least an hour prior to the actual tournament, usually even much earlier.

Regular

Short term for Regular Tournament.

Regular Tournament

A tournament that is neither a Restricted Tournament nor a Qualifier.

Reload Bonus

Many online poker rooms offer you the possibility for a bonus when making additional deposits (not to confuse with your poker bonus for a first deposit).

Restricted

Short term for Restricted Tournament.

Restricted Tournament

Tournaments that are restricted for people fulfilling a certain requirement. For example tournaments for UK based players or for players having reached a certain amount of points the previous month.

Ring Game

While in tournaments you pay your Buy-In and then play with the chips you were given, in Ring Games you put your actual money in the pot when playing. You can sit down at and leave the table as you please. Another term used for this sort of poker game is Cash Game.

River

The fifth Community Card - another less common term for it is 5th Street.

Rock

A player with a very Tight play style who only does play very strong hands.

Rounder

A very experienced poker veteran who keeps looking for High Limit games in order to earn his money. Some Rounders still travel a lot for this purpose.

Royal Cards

Cards with faces, i.e. King, Queen and Jack. Also called Picture Cards or Face Cards.

Royal Flush

The best hand possible in poker. It is a Straight Flush with Ace as the highest card. If you indeed should ever end up with a Royal Flush, pray for a willing victim with lots of cash.

Runner

Wenn Turn und/oder River Ihre Hand verbessern, werden diese Karten auch Runner genannt.
